What are the Maid Of Honor’s responsibilities?

As you know, this is a special person for you who will be kind of your “right hand” for the big day.

Prior to the wedding, her duties go from coordinating bridesmaids for their dress shopping to organizing your bridal shower. She can also assist with planning tasks like helping with the wedding invitations.

The day of the wedding she helps getting the bride into her dress and accompanies her to the ceremony; preceding the bride and her father (or whoever is giving the bride away) down the aisle. She could also help with the train of the dress and the veil to make sure the bride is “picture perfect” and normally also holds the bouquet during ceremony.

She could hand out the groom’s ring to the bride and the one signing as a witness for the bride.  If you would also like her to prepare a speech for the reception, totally ask her to! (unless she’s terrified of speaking in public, in which case she would let you know).

In some cases, a bride chooses to have both a maid and a matron of honor (a woman already wed). Normally in that case the maid of honor’s role is the one that takes precedence; though some brides split their duties in order to make it even.

It’s really up to you. Just be clear on Who does What so nothing gets tangled up.
